The Tree
Alone
it stands.
Heavy with regret.
The things it could have done
but didn’t.
Its leaves
wilting
falling
one
by
one.
Each leaf a memory
leaving
at last.
Sagacious and ancient
Omniscient
the tree.
Saddened by abandonment.
and the oncoming end.
The last memory
falls. Nothing left.
With a whispering wind,
the tree
sighs.
Groaning with the weight of a heavy life
it falls
slowly, finally…
the tree is gone.
